“When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threat. Instead, he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.” 1 Peter 2:23
Suffering stinks. There is just no way to get around it. No one likes to suffer. No one likes to be made fun of or insulted. Everything within us as humans rejects this. It is only natural to go into self-preservation mode and protect ourselves by retaliating or coming up with a bigger and better threats than the ones being thrown at us.
In the end what does this accomplish? We get ourselves into an endless cycle of war. Even if we “win” the battle what is left afterwards? Nothing but hatred and bitterness. There is no rest for the one who has to defend themselves because tomorrow they may be defeated.
What are we to do then? Sit back and do nothing? Absolutely Not! When Jesus was being insulted and was suffering greatly he did not sit back and do nothing. He entrusted himself to the one who judges justly. He did not seek his own vindication or stick up for his own rights but he trusted The Father to protect him and eventually bring justice to his situation.
Alot of times we see trust as a passive action almost equivalent to do nothing. This is simply not true. Trusting is the most active action you can take. Trust is constant. Trust causes us not to kill others but kill ourselves. Trust Trust puts our situation into much bigger hands. It is a much harder route but ultimately allows us to be held in the hands of our Savior.
If you are going through a time of persecution or bullying follow Jesus' example and entrust yourself to the one who judges justly.
