For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. 1 Peter 3:12
Have you ever felt like God deserted you? Have you ever felt ignored by him? Have you ever felt like he can’t hear you? Why did you feel that way?
Is it because you were experiencing some kind of trial or suffering when you didn’t deserve it?
1 Peter is addressing exiles and telling them that there is no reward for those who suffer for doing evil but there is a reward for those who suffer for doing good.
It is in the midst of this context that Peter quotes Psalm 34:15-16, “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer.”
Quite Ironic isn’t it. Here are a people who are suffering for doing good and then Peter tells them that the eyes of the Lord are upon them and that he is attentive to their prayer.
Just because you are suffering for doing good doesn’t mean God has left you. In fact that probably means that he is with you. Don’t judge God’s attentiveness to you based upon your circumstance. If you are living a righteous life you have his full attention.
