“The soldiers also mocked Him. They came offering Him sour wine and said, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!” An inscription was above Him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
At this point, Jesus had already gone through a full day of humiliation, anguish and pain. Near the end of His death, the soldiers labeled Him, “King of the Jews” as a means of mocking Him.
But, Christ knew His purpose so He went through with His mission. Even moments before His death, He offered salvation to the criminal next to Him, who had recognized that He was the Savior of the world.
People will always try to label you when you are choosing to walk in God’s purpose for your life. Some labels hurt badly. They are labels we would never want for ourselves, and labels the Lord never meant for us. Just like Jesus was labeled in the most cruel and mocking manner possible, all of us can receive ridicule for our existence and for our passion for Christ.
People will not always understand you. Jesus was misunderstood His whole life. But the most beautiful thing about His life is that He found His security in the purpose God had called Him to live. That is where you can find your peace. When people are hurling hurtful words at you, telling you that you are incapable of reaching your goals, or even if you find yourself doubting yourself…you can always look to the cross and remind yourself that you want to live a life worthy of Christ’s sacrifice.
The labels that are meant for harm, God will turn to good. Allow the Lord to heal your heart where there may be wounds, and let yourself be reminded that Christ was so secure in His purpose that nothing could stand between Him and the God’s will for His life.
