The Shepards returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
Luke 2:20
Christmas time has come. The hustle and bustle of buying presents, attending parties, hosting parties, preparing to see the in-laws, and deciding what to cook for Christmas dinner can all amount to nothing but absolute CHAOS.
For some the load may even be much heavier than this. This Christmas may be marked by the absence of a family member, a terminal illness, or financial stress.
Whatever your burden is this Christmas are you looking for Jesus? And if so are you willing to accept him in any form he chooses?
In Luke 2 we have the story of the birth of Jesus. The angels announced the birth of Jesus to shepherds and told them where he had been born. Once the shepherds found him laying there as a baby in a manger they went off and told what the angel had told them about the child, but Luke 2:20 only gives record of the shepherds returning to praise him. Where were all the other people that shepherds told about Jesus in Luke 2:20?
The people were amazed at what the shepherds told them but they did not come to recognize or honor the King of Kings. Israel at that time was awaiting a messiah but they wanted a strong and mighty king that could over throw Roman oppression not a helpless crying babe, much less a crying babe born in a lowly manger.
This Christmas don’t fail to see Jesus just because he comes in an unexpected way. Don’t just be content like the people the shepherds told about Jesus to only hear about him either. Remember what you are celebrating. Recognize, See, and Honor the King!
