Yeshua (Jesus) fulfilled the prophecies made by Isaiah. He bore our griefs, carried our sorrows, was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. It sounds like He covered it all but then Christ went further…”The chastisement of our peace was upon him.” The word 'chastisement' is the Hebrew word “musar” meaning: “discipline or correction”. The root is 'yosar' which means: “to instruct or correct by words or blows.”
The Son of God was disciplined, not because He was disobedient, but so He would feel the weight of our disobedience. He endured chastisement to bring another element to the atonement…healing for our damaged emotions. He not only died for our sins and sickness, but also for our depression, phobias, mental disorders, and broken hearts. No matter who you are, you have to admit that at some point in your life you have suffered some form of depression, fear, or a lack of self-confidence. Many try to deal with the emotions of their souls with medication, psychiatrists, or counselors. It's an attempt to fill the void of the human heart. It often seems hopeless. But, on the cross, Yeshua purchased hope! NOTHING can fill the void of your heart but the blood of Christ!
The chastisement of Yeshua brings PEACE. Let me remind you that 'peace' is the Hebrew word “shalom”. In short, it means: “soundness, completeness, wholeness, and abundant life.”
Yeshua purchased all this for us at Calvary. In Him we have hope. He can restore a broken home, a tormented mind, suicidal tendencies, mental disorders, and manic depression. “The chastisement of OUR PEACE was upon HIM.”
Shalom!!!
