“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong…”  1 Kings 3:9

God is the most giving father imaginable. He longs to implant and fulfill his dreams in his children. Like an earthly father he delights in the child who loves what he loves, who desires what he desires.

God loved Solomon so much that he came to him in a dream and said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give to you.” Solomon asked for a discerning hear to govern his people and distinguish between right and wrong.  God answered this request and then gave him even the things he did not ask for: wealth, honor, and long life.

God honored Solomon’s request because it aligned with the greatest desire of his heart, his people to live justly.  Because Solomon cared most about what God cared about, God was willing to give him everything he had.

Today, if you find yourself longing for everything God has for you take a moment to reflect on what you have been asking God for. Have you been asking for the things God cares about or the cares of this world? God cares first and foremost for his people. Jesus sits at the right hand of the father interceding for them. God’s heart is mysterious at times, but there is no doubt about what he longs for, to love his people. God’s true blessing is found in loving him and loving his people alone. There is no wealth, honor, or long life worth living without it.

Today, evaluate your prayer life, adjust your actions, and receive what he has for you when you align your heart with his.
