If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  James 1:5

Have you ever needed help with something? Maybe it was a school project, picking up a heavy object, resolving a conflict, or having money to buy something you needed. Especially as children we all need help to get things or do things by ourselves. Children desperately need their parents to provide for them and help them grow up into a self-sufficient adult.

As a child can you think back to a time where you needed something but were afraid to ask? Maybe this fear came because you weren't sure that your parents would help you or you didn't want them to help because you knew you really shouldn't be doing whatever you were about to do.

Being a Christian means that we are children of God. As his children we can't do anything by ourselves. Everything we do is by his grace. In 1 Corinthians 15:10 Paul testifies that he is what he is by the grace of God. The same is true for every Christian. We all need his grace to help us. As his children however sometimes we don't ask God for the help we need. Why is that? As a little child often times is afraid to ask his or her parents for what they need, we are afraid to ask God for what we need because we are afraid he won't really give it to us. James 1:6 continues to say that when you ask do not doubt because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  If this describes you today, trust that God wants to give you everything he has. He is eager to give generously if you will just ask in faith.

The other reason you may not be asking is because deep down in your heart you know that thing you want or that you are trying to accomplish is not  pleasing to God. James 4 verses 2-3 tell us that we do not have because we don't ask God and when we do ask we don't receive because we ask with wrong motives, so that we can spend what we get on earthly desires. If this is you today know that friendship with the world means enmity against God.  God's blessing and fullness does require a death of our flesh. It is extremely hard but being resurrected with Christ is worth it. The only thing harder than serving God is not serving him. You can either die a short death to the flesh or an eternal death to the soul. Become a friend of God turn your back on the world. This is the only way to be truly satisfied within the deepest part of your soul.

God desperately wants to provide for all of your needs today. If you haven't been asking for help start now! He gives generously to all who ask in faith and ask with a pure heart. Just ask!
