I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and thought I’m wonderful? If you are like me that sounds pretty narcissistic. How self centered is that? How can anyone say with a straight face say I’m wonderful?

David a man after God’s own heart does. He comes straight out and says I am fearfully and wonderfully made. How is this Godly?

It is important to recognize who David is speaking to when he makes this statement. Before he says I am fearfully and wonderfully made, he says I praise you. David is addressing God. He is recognizing that he is wonderful not because of his own abilities or talents but because God made him.

It is narcissistic to boast in our abilities. It is Godly when we boast in God’s! David is not boasting in himself. He is recognizing the grace of God and who he is in relationship to that grace.

Today, know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. This has nothing to do with GPA, job status, income, physical appearance, or social status. You are wonderful because you are hand made by God. You are wonderful because you are his. Join with the man after God’s own heart and say to God, “ I praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made!”
